Magnezit Group corporate environmental program «Million Trees» is gaining momentum

In 2022, within the framework of the corporate programme «Million Trees», Magnezit Group will carry out work on the reclamation of industrial territories and landscaping of urban lands with an area of about 80 hectares. Over 480 thousand trees will be planted this year alone. Since 2018, almost 200 hectares of land were utilized in the course of the program.

Soil preparation and planting of more than 15 species of trees began in April 2022 on the lands of the forest fund adjacent to the territory of the Satka production site of the Magnezit Group. This was preceded by serious environmental studies conducted together with scientists of the Ural branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences to select those varieties of trees that are resistant to frost, grow well on local soils and can withstand the conditions of the city. Most of the planting crops were pine and birch, also among them juniper, willows, poplars and even apple trees, etc.

As in the case of the landscaping carried out in 2018-2021, the Magnezit Group provides control over the growth of plantings and agrotechnical care, if necessary, carrying out weeding and watering.

Also, as part of the ongoing work, the improvement of the observation deck «Russian Magnezit» near the Avangard complex will be carried out. This will help development of the Magnezit Group industrial tourism programmes, including visits to quarries, sites of innovative production of the Magnezit Group and its corporate museum, the prize-winner of many competitions.

The system-based reforestation works are an important tool for the implementation of Magnezit Group’s environmental initiatives aimed at minimizing the inevitable negative impact of industrial activities on the environment. Thus, focusing on the principles of its Sustainable Development Policy, Magnezit Group aspires to create conditions for improving the quality of life of the population and maximizing the realization of social and human potential in the regions of presence.
