Slovmag becomes a major supplier of refractories for lining of anode furnaces at the serbian copper smeltery «TIR BOR»

The subsidiary of Magnezit Group — Slovmag (town Lubenik, Slovakia), which is the biggest producer of magnesia refractories in Eastern Europe, became the major supplier of refractories for lining of anode furnaces at the Serbian copper smeltery «TIR BOR» (town Bor, Serbia).

It became possible thanks to the long-term successful cooperation of Slovmag and «TIR BOR» in the field of refractories deliveries and engineering of thermal vessels at the Serbian copper smeltery. Thus, the campaign of 220-tons anode furnace № 2 for copper treatment was successfully completed in early December 2014 at «TIR BOR». The service life of the furnace lining, which had its second routine repairs, amounted to 258 heats. Periclase chrome highly burnt bricks of SLV ЗОD and STF grades, produced at SLOVMAG, were used for lining of the furnace.

Earlier in 2014 high quality refractory materials of Magnezit Group demonstrated the best results of durability also on all the three converters of the copper smeltery. At that time Slovmag was chosen as the major supplier of refractories for converters lining at «TIR BOR» in 2015.

Copper smeltery «TIR BOR» operates as a part of Mining and Smelting Combine Bor (RTB) and it is located in the east of Serbia. RTB Bor includes a copper mine, a plant for production of primary metal, a refining plant in the town Bor, as well as two deposits Veliki Krivelj and Majdanpek, where ore is mined by open cast mining. Total reserves of the complex amount to 3 mln. tons of copper.
