Magnezit Group summarized the results of landscaping projects for 2022
Following the strategic goals set out in its Environmental Policy, which provides for a wide range of environmental protection measures to improve the environmental situation in the regions of production activity, in 2022 Magnezit Group continued active implementation of programs for planting trees and shrubs to offset CO2 emissions and create a comfortable urban environment. Under the program «One Million Trees» new plantings were planted in the forest lands, urban areas of Satkinsky municipal district, and on the grounds of educational institutions. Also planting was made with the purpose of planting greenery of industrial territories, landscaping of observation sites and tourist routes of Magnezit Group.
Over the years of the program, initiated by the Group’s management in 2018, almost 1.1 million trees of different species have been planted, specially selected by scientists for planting in Satkinsky District. In 2022 alone, work was carried out on more than 73 hectares, and the number of trees planted amounted to more than 488 thousand. The total cost of the program for 2022 amounted to almost 40 million rubles.
With solving the main tasks of this program, which in the next years will be continued mainly in terms of organizing regular agro-technical care of the already growing trees, the main efforts of Magnezit Group in this area will focus on a new initiative, which was launched last year — «Flowery City». It was launched at the request of citizens, who have highly appreciated the results of the program «One Million Trees» and other numerous landscaping activities implemented by Magnezit Group. In 2022 perennial flowers were planted on Solnechnaya Street in the city center and on the territory of Magnezit Group, but its scale will be really appreciated in 2023, when new grasses, flowers and bushes will appear on the areas of several tens of hectares. In total it is planned to plant more than 10 million flowers, and in 2023 alone Magnezit Group will spend more than 35 million rubles for this project.
The partners of the program include the administration of the municipality, the Satka District Development Support Fund, the Sobranie Foundation, the scientific community, and the Art-Satka creative community space. At the same time, «Flowery City» is a really people’s project, because it is not only launched, following the wishes of the residents, but also realized with their direct participation. The residents of Satka choose the areas to plant and specific types of plantations from the ones recommended by biologists. And volunteers and environmental activists themselves participate in planting flowers. Thus, Magnezit Group implements one of its main principles under its own Sustainable Development Policy — active cooperation with local communities and maximum consideration of stakeholders’ positions when implementing social, environmental and other programs aimed at the development of the regions where it operates.
