Urban beautification of Satka in Arch Moscow exposition 2011 in non-commercial project of Magnezit Group

Projects of beautification of public garden in the city centre of Satka of Chelyabinsk region — one of small cities of Southern Urals in the framework of XVI international exhibition of architecture and design ARCH Moscow are presented by creative groups of young architects — graduates of leading Russian and European universities under the direction of recognized masters of architecture.

Magnezit Group plays the role of the initiator of this competition. The project is socially significant both for the company and for the city and urged to unite citizens around the idea of renovation and creation of modern and comfortable space in city center.

«Nowadays professional theoretical and practical attention is focused on problems of cities — the most urgent problems of a modern society. The authorities, architects, sociologists from all over the world are working on the humanization of existing cities. This is confirmed by numerous studies and examples of urban planning, particularly in Europe, where cities have historically evolved over the centuries. We can also refer it to Russia», emphasizes a coordinator of project, famous architectural critic Elena Gonsales. «Authorities, architects and business must work together to improve the life of citizens, to make it more comfortable, eventful and secure. Problems of cities and towns are different and can be solved in different ways. For large urban areas work is at the level of urban development, for small towns — at the level of urban beautification. In the second case public urban spaces are of particular importance. They serve for the purpose not only of city decoration, but also of an important meeting place for citizens, a center of their social life».

5 creative groups take part in this competition: students of Samara State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering under the direction of E. Repina and S. Malahova, representatives of Moscow Architectural Institute — E. Assa’s group and design group of V.Savinkin and V.Kuzmin, students of South Ural State University under the direction of E. Zharinova and group of Institute of Architecture in Dessau under the direction of Daniel Dendra (Germany).

All contestants took into account existing relief, green plantations of the area and, of course, a city dominant — Palace of Culture «Magnezit», which became a forming element of future architectural complex.

In April 2011, architects visited Satka. Heads of executive power of Satka, deputies, representatives of veteran and youth associations, public organizations took part in this meeting. Architects presented to the public their views and approaches to the organization of public spaces, citing as an example already realized projects. Citizens had also the opportunity to explain their views and expectations. They became active partners of city beautification. Citizens suggested arranging children’s park of attractions, a dance pavilion, recreational facilities, playgrounds for children, a café in this area.

This summer in Satka in the framework of 110 anniversary of «Magnezit» celebrations creative groups of young architects will present their projects to a public discussion. Following the results of professional and public examination the project-winner which will acquire the right to the further realization will be chosen.

Projects in details:

Samara State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Group under the direction of Repina E.A., Malakhova С.А. presents the project «Amphitheater on a slope — a city drawing room». The name speaks for itself — authors consider public space as an active area.

Chelyabinsk South Ural State University, Group under the direction of E. Zharinova represents the project «Memory tape». Authors use city symbolics as the tool of a layout of square.

Moscow Architectural Institute, Group under the direction of E. Ass proposes to create a new, modern image of city by traditional means. Architects transform the existing square from a transit zone between top and bottom levels of city building into convenient and attractive public garden.

Moscow Architectural Institute, Group under the direction of V.Savinkin and V.Kuzmin represents the project «Funicular». A main «attraction» of square — funicular — helps to open new horizons and panoramic view of Satka. All things — beginning from formation of a relief to small architectural forms, are made from a local material.

Architecture institute in Dessau (Germany), Group under the direction of D.Dendra represents research of existing position and strategic planning of the future city of Satka for the period till 2018. Square reconstruction becomes a starting point on which this strategy finds it designation: Architecture, Art, Social life. These three directions are reflected in the offered project.
