Magnezit Group - participant of XX International Conference of Refractories and Metallurgists
Continuous implementation of innovations is at the core of Magnezit Group’s Sustainable Development Policy. The main areas include scientific work in the field of new technologies, practical research to improve the characteristics of refractory products, adaptive innovations and operational improvements to upgrade production processes. Managers and employees of the Group are the authors of more than 200 patent developments on production technologies, methods of enrichment of raw materials and obtaining pure magnesium oxide.
An important part of the policy of Magnezit Group is the development of scientific and technological cooperation and partnership in innovative activities with a wide range of stakeholders for global progress in accordance with the goals of sustainable development of the United Nations. The Group supports large scientific and practical conferences, conducts cooperation with specialized scientific organizations and universities. In particular, Magnezit Group is one of the initiators of the International Conference of refractories and metallurgists, which was held this year in the National Research Technological University of Steel and Alloys for the anniversary 20th time. Magnezit Group, which heads are members of the organizing committee, was traditionally the main partner and one of the most active participants of the conference. Representatives of the Group delegation headed by Development Director Dmitry Borzov and Technical Director Maxim Turchin had an opportunity to discuss with colleagues and partners a wide range of current problems and prospects of the refractories industry, the latest technology and development of cooperation with enterprises of ferrous metallurgy, which are the main consumers of refractories.
Following the principles of maximum openness of their own scientific and technical activities and being aware of the need for partnership with both colleagues and customers to develop effective practical solutions for the national industry, the Group’s specialists shared their unique research on technology development in the refractory industry and related industries with all the participants. Among them: leading manufacturers of refractories — JSC «Borovichi Refractories Plant», OJSC «Dinur», LLC «Keralit», large metallurgical enterprises — PJSC «NLMK», «EVRAZ Group», JSC «OEMK», as well as educational and scientific institutions.
One of the notable reports was presented by Anton Migashkin, who spoke about the effect of calcium aluminate-based additives on potential improvements in performance and durability of refractory lining of steel-teeming ladles. Andrey Borzov shared his achievements in the field of computer modeling application for optimization of magnesite burning in a multi-hearth furnace and reduction of power consumption.
The conference also featured a presentation by Andrey Zabolotsky, who conducted a numerical study of refractory lining failure under thermal shock, which is the basis for increasing the durability and reliability of refractory materials in high-temperature environments. And Ivan Datsko made a presentation on the advantages of adding zirconium dioxide particles to improve the properties and characteristics of basic refractories, opening up new possibilities for their application in various industrial processes.
